Default 16 Man Multibox - Go with Intel I9-9900k or AMD threadripper 1950X Setup?

So, the issue that I am having is I want to multibox 16 accounts, but I cannot decide between going with an I9-9900k setup or a Threadripper 1950X setup (both processors appear to have like a $60-$80 price difference with Intel being cheaper surprisingly). Every test I lookup on youtube comparing these two or even just checking into either processors the testing is always done on a single game client. So I didn’t want to just take all the information in since while multiboxing there will be several game clients. I know the I9-9900k will win hands down if you are running a single game client. But in this case I’m referring to multiboxing 16 game clients.

I planned on running with 64gb of ram, but here is the draw back I’m going to continue using my gtx 1060 6gb graphic card. Which of these setups should I go with the intel I9-9900k or amd 1950x? I know ill have to get a new motherboard and all that stuff, just trying to figure out which to go with. I play in 1080p normally but while multiboxing I usually drop the settings down as I primarily farm when I multibox, so im standing in the same general area pretty much (unless farming something like herbs). I have read on the forums here that ideally you want to have 1 core for every 1 game client. But with the 1950x having a base ghz of 3.4, 16 core, 32 threads and the I9-9900k having 5.0ghz, 16 thread, but only 8 core I wasn’t sure if the extra ghz from the intel processor would result in better performance or not.

    Note:
I don't know if I should note this or not I have been playing on a 4 core I7-6700k but just kind of tired of playing Minecraft WoW (lol, or world of minecraft blocky graphics), that and 25-33fps on main and 15-20fps on slaves is what I currently get with lowest settings and thats with the gtx 1060 6gb card and only 16gb of ram. So im lookin to move up lol. Keep in mind that I will use this same rig to do my one day a week raiding with guild, but throughout the week mostly multiboxing or running marketing programs like "jarvee" (instead of a VPS)

Another thing I couldn't decide between were the motherboards... Hypathetically if I were to go with the 1950x I didn't want to pay that massive price for the Zenith Extreme so instead opted for the following:

ASRock X399 Professional Gaming sTR4 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1/3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

I have not looked into the motherboards for the I9-9900k yet. Looking for any kind of constructive criticism and/or useful advice as I have not made any purchases yet, just gathering all my information right now.

One thing I thought was intersting was sometbody in the youtube video below did a benchmark test using the I7-6700k processor I have now compared with the Threadripper 1950X that I was thinking of buying and everything looked great, until.... The FPS was noticeably (not 1 or 2) lower than the intel. So in a single game window maybe ill have less FPS, but I dont know if itd beat the processor I have for multiboxing, the fps. I mean I wanna upgrade but im not sure if the 1950X would be a better upgrade then the I9-9900k.

This is somewhat of a general reply because I don't multibox more than 5 characters, but...

You should also be looking at multi-threaded benchmarks, like Cinebench, to gauge a chip's overall performance.

Since there's no formula to figure out performance, it's really impossible to know unless you can:

    1) Test them side-by-side while multiboxing
    2) Find someone else who has tested both setups, using a similar number of game clients and settings that you want

However, generally speaking, if you want to run more game clients then you want more cores.

At stock, the 9900K only runs two cores at 5GHz, and, just like every process that relies on "boost" numbers for the purpose of marketing, that's only if thermals permit.

I doubt that's going to change unless you upgrade your GPU.

Generally, a motherboard is a motherboard. Pick one that you like the look of, and one that also has an on-board layout that suits your hardware needs (multi-GPU, m.2 placement, etc.).

Intel CPUs have had better single-threaded performance for like the last six or seven years, and the "benchmarks" in that video that you're referring to are games that are heavily single-threaded. So, it's no surprise that Intel continues to maintain their single-threaded crown after all these years.

Here's the deal, though... You aren't playing a single game, you're playing multiple copies of a single game.

Hey thanks for the reply mirai! Do you think there will be any difference then if I used the 1950X compared to my current setup of I7-6700k 4 cores? I mean if I kept the same GPU should my FPS still increase with the 1950x or anything work better?

Get 2 cores (total 4 threads) per game.
Also, ideally, leave atleast 2 cores not assigned for any games: its for the OS.

64gb ram will be enough, but cutting it close, as 10 uses around 30gb ram. Get a motherboard you can upgrade to 128gb if need be in the future.

    Get the 1080ti or 2080ti.

Going 16 with semi decent performance doesnt happen at a cheap price. Sadly.

Yes.. you will be able to cram f.ex 10 into 6 cores / 12 threads, you do the math for rest.., but you wont get near the performance, and you WILL regret not getting the better cpu. Been there done that.

Why are people saying you need such high core counts per game. I use a 1700x and can easily run 18 games at once. They. Are all at min settings but I'm not going for beauty when multiboxing.

Historically, we've learned that running multiple game clients on a single machine can easily eat through quite a bit of hardware.

Unless you share everything you're doing, then this statement doesn't help anyone because there's so much information missing. I'll also throw out the fact that, unless I made some major changes to my setup, I couldn't easily run 18 game clients on my 6950X.

What if someone is in it for beauty? Does your assessment of the situation and reply change?
