Default I want to start playing eve!

Hi all I have tons of questions!

I've played wow for 6 years or so and I do like it, but space games have always been my favorite. My only issue is I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around eve. So first set of questions.

Group comp? Heals dps tanks? Do those exist?
    instances?
    Group quests?

i have more but I have to go back to work.

    Thanks!

I'm glad you're asking the questions that I was afraid to.

Very basic and quick run down. (Been playing the game off and on for over 7 years now, i still play to this date)

EVE is a beast of its own, there are very few comparisons you can make to other games that are typical themepark style of games.

The game is PVP Based, i try to avoid it as much as possible, even in the "High-sec" areas. I am a PVE'er, even over the years i have lost many ships trying to avoid pvp as much as possible. You will eventually get caught/ganked/tackled/gatecamped.

Fleet compositions depend on what your doing. There are "healers" called Logistic ships which repair shields/hull damage. There are varied types of DPS, brawlers (close range blasters), alpha (Large battleship/Tier 3 BC, which has high single shot bursts), snipers (Long range arties and and beams), and there are several more.

Tanks are usually any ship fit to sponge damage or self-repair damage - "tanking" in the game is very different as tanking refers to the type of damage absorption or self-repair amounts a ship can do. There are things like speed tanking, passive tanking, and active tanking.

There are no instances like dungeons in WoW. There are thing sort of like it, but there more akin to open world dungeons.

Missions are generally taken by each member who can grab one, each members has to complete them. There are ways to split the rewards and reputation across the group, but the Faction rep usually only goes to the person who turns in the mission.

There is a lot more to this game, even with my 7+ years of experience i still learn something new on a day to day basis. Knowledge i had years ago means nothing to the game now, as the game evolves patch after patch.

Go read this pdf. Some of it may be out of date but it's the tome of eve online. The game is amazing. I left wow when the /follow removal happened. Eve online is a sandbox game. The game evolves based on what you want to do. The learning curve is huge but that's what keeps me wanting more. The best thing about the game is you can pay for it with in game money. I started with one account then went to 3. After learned more about the game I went to 5. Now I have 11 and I am on my way to become a rich industrialist. I live in Null sec and run 11 accounts mining ore. Give the game a try.

Most people that spam the "free 21 day trial" offer to split the plex bonus they get for referring you... If you're interested in a 21-day trial and the poster here won't do that, check out reddit where there are always dozens of links to the trial which include half-a-plex for using their link.

Of course I would do that. Hamburglar did it for me when I joined Eve. I would not trust reddit.

    lets start with an image

with that said. eve has corporations or "guilds" that are dedicated to teaching new players how to play the game. its that kind of game. if you enjoy the challenge of learning a new game that has many concepts and a true sandbox mmo, then i highly recommend this game to you. if youre looking for a game where you can just lolololmultiboxlightningboltpwned! spam your way through the game, then this really isnt the game for you.

boxing in eve is pretty common, maybe not the way that we box here, but its super common for people to run 2 or 3 accounts on a regular basis.

also i highly recommend taking a swing through the many wikis and help guides that are available. i personally like the e-uni wiki https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...8g22MOPrsFEEHS

    http://www.eve-wiki.net/index.php?title=The_Basics

lastly expect it to take time to learn this game. its really difficult. the game has been out for 10 years and ccp has kept from dumbing down the game to cater to the casuals like other mmos. ccp maintains their "mostly" hardcore sandbox stance.

and for good measure ill throw in my trial link heh. because why not. plex prices have been really good lately so im ok doing a 2:1 split on the plex sale. free money for me heh also the starting income helps a lot

First address for everyone looking into EVE (be it multiboxer or not) is http://www.eveuniversity.org/

Join them. Take a few classes with them (teamspeak and live in game). Learn the cuts and ropes of EVE with them.

It is possible if you know exactly what you are doing but dont count on that if you are new to the game. Expect to pay for 1-3 month in RL currency to get your business rolling first.
