    Default Finding macro icons

I realize that this is probably a prio 3 issue, but an annoying one for sure: is there a smart way to find icons for macros?

I spend considerable time searching for a spell icon for macros (especially for the main toon), it seems the in game icon list has some vague sorting, but not really.

Is there a way to find icons based on spell id?

This does not answer your question, but I always use the first icon thats a red question mark. This icon will dynamically change based upon what skill, ability, or item you are using. So if you have 3 spells in a cast sequence the icon will change to whatever spell is being cast. It works well for the paladin and shaman rotations etc.

just have the following on the first line of your macro
    #showtooltip

This will show the icon of whatever spell is active.

What above posters said pretty much. #showtooltip does the trick.

If you still want to find an icon in the wow tab LargerIconSelection makes that a lot easier. Makes the window a lot bigger.

this is a really helpful macro - makes the search a lot easier

I have keys that have no spell for the main toon, but the slaves have a spell associated. #showtooltip only works for spells that the toon knows, so I will use the LargerIconSelection for easing the search.

    #show
This will display the correct icon, assuming you use the red question mark.
You can force it to display any spell/ability which your class/race gets, or any item your toon possesses.
It does not give you a mouse-over tooltip.
You can #show Elemental Mastery, and /cast Lava Burst, for example.

    #showtooltip
This is as the above, except you can mouse over the icon for the tooltip.
