Default Can't beat "Shade of Eranikus" [final boss @ Sunke

Last night I finally ventured into Sunken Temple at Level 52.

Did it this late of a level because I wanted to finish up the class quests that require Sunken Temple, and did some easy questing at WPL.

Most of the mobs are green and I barely paid attention while going through Sunken Temple. Paid more attention to watching "Band of Brothers".

Anyways, I'm going through it pretty easily, and finally cleared everything and about to take on the "Shade of Eranikus".

I've always remembers this boss being a pain in the ass the 3 previous times I've been here (non-boxing).

My shaman lays down the following totems:
    Ground Totem
    Tremor Totem
    Flametongue Totem
    Healing Stream Totem

Shaman's Earth Shield on my Paladin and:
    Devotion Aura
    Righteous Fury
Blessing of Kings on my Paladin
Blessing of Salvation on everyone else.

My Fire Mages have combustion primed.
    Arcane Intelligence on everyone
    Ice Armor on themselves.

Everyone drinking whatever elixirs I have (int, armor, spell damage...)

My Paladin lays a mine (engineering), then hurls Avenger's Shield. Consecration then Holy Shield. Seal of Light, then Judgment, Consecration and Holy Shield when it's up, then repeat.

Mages are opening with Scorch twice (to get the 5 debuffs), then fire ball, fire ball, by then the debuffs are gone, so Scorch twice again and repeat fire ball.

Shaman lightning bolts, lightning bolts, healing the tank, more lightning bolts, checking to make sure Grounding Totem is still up and replying.

    This is my usual attacks.

    This is what happens:
-Paladin starts attack and gains agro, Mage and Shaman attacks.
-Eranikus sleeps Paladin then goes for one of my mages.
-Ground totem kicks in, Paladin goes for Eranikus trying to regain agro
-Mage ice blocks if about to die (2.3.2 FTW)
-Paladin casts Bless on Protection on Shaman if needed.

Either one of these 2 happens:
    1. A Mage dies, Paladin able to get agro again, goes to sleep for a second or two, Eranikus goes for the mages again (ice block on CD), so the mages die, left with Shaman and Paladin. Paladin gains agro, sleep again, then Eranikus kills Shaman, goes back to Paladin... then dies.

    or

    2. None of the mages die because Shaman is getting worked on. Shaman barely survives it or dies. Paladin gains agro until sleep again, then either the 1 or 2 mages dies or the Shaman, eventually Paladin gains agro until sleep, then everyone else dies again, then my paladin.

I've tried about 4 times, ported to Stormwind, repaired and tried 1 more time. Finally swapped out one of the mages with my lvl 64 warlock and easily ended it.

I'll have to run through it again for the mage then didn't get the essence of Eranikus, and might swap out a different mage with the warlock to just finish it if I just can't do it.

Would appreciate any tips or suggestions!

You absolutely need either ZOMGDPSBBQ or you need an off-tank type to survive the sleeps. He will usually sleep the closest person to him in melee range. What I did was have my offtank stand inside him or had the pets go melee him. You might go send your shammy over to stand in him while your pally builds threat. You might also try dropping a taunt totem after the pally gets a nice threat lead and see if it'll help any. This is gonna be a bitch for me as my new group is pally+mages. :P

given the shaman is the healer I would say bad idea. put a mage really close to him so they get slept instead. Yes you may lose some dps but this way you wont have to spend lots of pally mana to heal himself, thus conserving it for offensive threat gaining abilities.

First, keep in mind that Eranikus is immune to nature damage. So your shammy will rely only on Searing Totem/Flame Shocks.

Second, make sure grounding totem is up all the time. It will absorb the sleep but will wipe you paladin aggro (only his). You will have to Righteous Defense right after it.

The thing that really hurts here, is the AoE stun since grounding totem will not absorb that. The only way I've found to survive that was dps him down as fast as you can. Pretty much doable, downed him at lvl 52 on my pala/shammies team using only flame shocks and searing totems (yeah it was a pain)

Yea when I ran it normally on my rogues and warr I got slept every time on both chars...in the former case that's good, the tank kept him aggro'd; in the latter case it wasn't so bad as we had a pala present ready and able to take the aggro; the above suggestion of putting a mage up his butt to take the sleep is yer best bet; scoot the tank out to max tanking range and blink the mage in under him asap

Use grounding totem it absorbs sleeps.

I did this on my Paladin/4x Spriests and the way I did it was by having DPS like crazy. Keeping VE up and Shadowform and Sheilds up and just going crazy.

He still killed 3 of the priests, only 1 priest and me surivived. Took me 5 attempts.

That sleep is pretty fucking crap because makes you immune to magic so immune to dispel. :/

Even if ground totem absorbs the sleep, your paladin's (and only his) threat will be reset. The only way to regain aggro is to Righteous Defense since their threat will be way above .

Who loves stoneclaw totem / searing totem?

    Srsly.

Tremor does nothing in my experience for the boss sleep from Eranikus. Grounding works but not tremor.

In fact, I even checked on wowhead for you:
I originally posted saying that a Shaman's Tremor Totem would be effective in preventing the sleep effect from Eranikus. However, it would seem it's not a "true" sleep effect, and so isn't affected by that totem.

Despite this, a Shaman is still a great asset on this fight, because Grounding Totem will absorb every sleep so long as it is active (WoWWiki points out that he uses no other single-target spells).

Start out with stoneclaw totem on Eranikus. Hopefully he'll "sleep" the totem, which is immune and will continue to pulse. You can even put tranquil air down to help keep the aggro on stoneclaw if it lives long enough. Of course, stoneclaw only has so much HP and you have to watch your aggro, but it will give you some lead time to whiddle away his health without worrying about a slept tank.

Then righteous defense+judge righteousness with your pally. Grounding totem the next sleep. BoP/Iceblock whoever he goes after and regain aggro (either by righteous defense + judge righteousness, or by throwing your captain america shield). Rinse, repeat. Between grounding, BoP, iceblock you should always have at least one ability ready to get the sleeps. You can also experiment with earthbind kiting if he's not immune to snares (I can't remember) while the pally is slept.

The key to this fight is watching your aggro like a hawk. Don't be afraid to stop DPS while your pally re-establishes aggro. They're good at frontloading.

I did this tonight, and it was fairly annoying; I wiped a couple of times before I got it. I have 1xPally 4xShaman so 'dpsing him down' was not really an option. What I ended up doing was this:

    1. Lay down all totems and grounding totem
    2. Avenger's shield to pick him up, then turn him to the side immediately
    3. As soon as he casts sleep and wipes aggro, hit 'target of target' and use righteous defense.

Righteous Defense is only on a 15 second cooldown, and I never saw him do slumber twice within 15 secs; it appeared to be on a ~20 sec cooldown. He resisted my taunt once (with 12% spell hit; bad luck!) and that was a wipe, but the next time I tried it the taunts all worked and I took him down pretty smoothly with no deaths. Just watch your buffs to make sure grounding totem is still up, and taunt quickly.

Righteous Fury and Avenger's Shield use melee +hit.

    Sucky, amirite?
