View Full Version : [WoW] Just can't take leveling anymore, boost time?

So a few weeks ago I started WoW for the first time (well, played quite a few times before but never anything significant, just couldn't get into it) and I am just am not having any fun leveling. I am a MMORPG vet, 15+ years.... so I get it. I just can't do the leveling thing in WoW for some reason.

So the good news is I have leveled 4 teams to 40ish. Yes, I know not much but I just can't push past that as I lose interest and it's sooooooo boring. I am used to high end raiding by myself. Took down raid targets alone that very few have in EQ and EQ2. Leveled 29 toons in EQ2 to max levels and AA's to build my raid force in under 3 months. I can focus something serious when I am enjoying what I am doing and have daily goals.

My current teams are:
5X Druid (48)
5X Hunters (36)
Brew/Sham/HunterX3 (46)
Pal/Pal/Mage/Mage/Mage (38)

So I spent the day reading about every class on every site I could and what people are doing today in the game and it occurred to me that I probably just need to get to end game stuff to start enjoying my gaming. I spend roughly 6-8 hours a day leveling right now and I every dungeon I have tried will all my teams I have done without many deaths at all... So I am understanding a lot as far as how to fight the battles. I get that end game now isn't just tank and spank and all I need to do is heal the tank, and that's fine. I love a challenge and right now nothing is and I don't have the patience to level any of those teams past where they are.

I have decided to use my 120 Boosts from Shadowlands pre-order on all 5 accounts - I had been saving them but its either that or I go back to EQ2 and I really don't want to. I have seen maybe 1% of the game for WoW and there just HAS to be a reason is the most popular MMORPG of all time.

Since it is my first 5 man at end game level, I really want all the same class and same spec (like 5 Fire Mages, or whatever). That way I can learn how to MultiBox high end content first. After this 5 man I can get a little more diverse, but want super linear while I learn strats and such.

So what are a few 5 box options that will let me see some M+ and do a lot of stuff at end game that are all the same spec, and if you have time, maybe a quick one liner on why I should choose them. I would do like healer and 4 DPS if need be and if it gives me a much better chance to got farther than a 5 of all the same.. I just dont want to do tank/healer/3XDPS... and by the way, I just can't get into Hunters. I don't know why, and I know how much they rock in end game because they are ranged and mobile, but I just don't like playing them. /shrug

Any suggestions please let me know. I am going to start tomorrow morning! and as always, thanks in advance.

(oh, and I get that "in your time" it was 10X harder to level blah blah blah....walked uphill to school in the snow, both ways....All I know is what I have experienced, so be nice about my impatience hah :) )

I thought you were levelling one team... not multiple teams.. im getting that burnout feeling myself just thinking about it. Well, sounds to me like you are ready to skip 10 years of content and focus on the last exp, bfa, and use the 110 character boosts.

Alternativly, you could casually play 1 character and later on as you get to know the game better, you maybe want to invest more into multiboxing. Only you know what you prefere... do you enjoy playing a solo character as a pure dps...healer or tank. If you choose f.ex a druid, monk or paladin, you can play any role, as they can switch between all three.

Remember to do things in moderation, even wow ;)

i totally understand the ridiculousness of my post and how stupid it sounds. I really do and it’s embarrassing to be honest. That’s not a bad idea to do one toon though. I always boxed on EQ2 and eq because it was so damn hard to find groups. Clearly here it isn’t.

i Just think stick to one group play druids since u can have all tanks and spam that dungeon finder !!

Doing more teams is going to burn u out for sure!

or use ur boosts, farm with erm get ur gold and boost more toons if need be

If i need new toons ill just boost them, Im burnt on leveling more toons now even with the new fox and mechagnomes for the hertiage armor pff I aint doing it !!

I love levelling more than anything else in WoW, but if I start making tons of teams I do get burnout pretty fast.

I like to try different mixes, and my latest one is levelling a 5 man team with Disc Priest up front with x1 Boomkin and x3 Beast mastery Hunters.

I use the dungeon finder and my boomkin is forced into tank spec once we zone in, but it's no trouble to just change her to Boomy again inside. I am having so much fun doing it and it's nice playing the healer and keeping the whole team ranged. The damage is great and bosses die quickly.(I must get some strange looks with a huge Zandalari Druid and the rest Foxes haha).

My advice is pick your fave team, or find the one that makes you feel good when playing it and stick to it - get it to max level. I just got BFA flying recently so am looking forward to my newest team getting to BFA :)

I may be crazy but I would like to try visions on them - the healer will reduce the hp some of the mobs.

I do have a trinity team which is pala tank, disc Priest and Hunters.. the reason I like Hunters is there is so much moving around and they can still dps on the move. The boomkin in my latest team can at least dot and run too.

For a same class team I love Demonology Warlock, the felguards (at least in the outdoor content) tank well while I round everything up and nuke it down very fast.

Shadowlands is still technically a ways away but the leveling experience is supposed to be much faster, on the magnitude of 50-60% faster. If you just stick with one team and make it to the expansion which I would guess is 6 months away, maybe a bit longer. Will make it much more enjoyable.

Also end of expansion events in the past have had level catch up mechanics in the form of invasions or similar. For the 15th anniversary there was the Alterac Valley event which you queued up for a PvP 40v40 battleground and leveled very fast. A lot of players got all their alts maxed during this.

Appreciate the post. What is boomkin?

A druid in balance spec (range dps) = is also sometimes called a "boomkin, moonkin, doomkin, lazerchicken".

Its a very easy class to setup. So playing 1 ...basically you can play 5 at the same time, easy.
So this way you atleast have "one 5 man team" at max level eventually, which you can practice with + if you want, any of them can be changed to tank or healer too, if you want more challenge.

But if you dont want to play 5, but only 1, a balance druid isnt a bad choice.

"Lazer chicken ftw" hehe

Sidenote:
Its highly recommended that you try to find a guild, with likeminded adult people.
Stay away from random groups, if possible.

The only thing that made me feel worse than choosing warlocks in BFA was trying to maintain multiple teams for rep and gold. I would definitely recommend devoting your time to 1 team. Personally I would shoot for a team that can easily handle most of the content the game offers. A highly mobile, versatile team with a deep toolkit that offers a lot of team synergy and allows you to grow as a multiboxer.

My original crew was BDK / RSHM / 3 * Warlock but I suffered enormously trying to get them to do anything M+ because they are immobile turrets and BFA is a movement heavy experience. The next problem was that BFA is extraordinarily unfriendly to alts. So if I wanted to switch mid expansion I'd have to regrind everything. That wasn't happening.

Anyway tl;dr: they are nerfing some of the alt unfriendly stuff by making essences available to alts and rewarding corruption gear more frequently. So for the next few months playing alts might be worthwhile but for you I'd just stick to 5 that have a lot of freedom. Do NOT make the same mistake I made by picking with your heart and not with your head.

Great advice. I actually spent a lot of time yesterday figuring out what it is that I can spend so many hours leveling in other games but it's just painful here, and then it hit me.... one of the #1 reasons I didn't get into WoW when it went public was how Cartoony it was, and frankly still is. When I walk into a large city and there are like 5 Tauren, they all look like exactly the same to me other than the mount. Now obviously there is a lot of colorful gear and all that, I think its's just the cartoony feeling that makes it hard for me... I know that sounds dumb but to me this game has a Lamborghini engine inside the body of a 98 Hyundai as far as the characters go... and some of the scenery as well. Yeah, there are cool areas and stuff for sure...really cool areas. So I realized that I need to enjoy looking at my characters and Tauren is my favorite.. and they can be Paladin so win win there.
So I have built my next team and am going to stick with them:

Tauren Paladin - Definitely my favorite Race/Class combo
Blood Elf Priest - I love the priest class so went with that over Sham or Dru which is prolly better for this group.
Troll Hunter
Orc Hunter
Undead Hunter
(love how it looks with 3 different pets and easier to tell which pet belongs to which toon)

I love the diversity of having all 5 races, keeps it new and not all the same race and everyone looking exactly the same from a bird-eye view. I am lvl 15 now on all of them and I actually am enjoying them way more than any of my other groups...so, as taking everyone's advice here, I just deleted my other teams and am going to focus on this team only. I will save my 120 boosts until Shadowlands comes out.

Thanks again DB community.

PS - I did a few dungeons as a single DPS player with my 110 boost from BFA and both groups were so freaking painfully slow and poorly executed. No one communicated and were in any type of sync. Wiped multiple times and people just left the group as few times..... I led in DPS both times too, was proud :) It was a terrible experience so went back to Multi-Boxing :)

I agree it's cartoony, but because of that its helped on the flip side of not looking dated as time goes on and graphics get better.
It's similar to EQ and then EQ2, the graphics looked amazing during their time period, but now - it's dated.

The only other game I could suggest would be FFXIV - able to multibox as well, it's not as friendly and you need a beefier PC though.

I still think EQ2 on max settings looks incredible... EQ is definitely dated.

Oddly enough- because my first experience with an MMORPG was WoW, I can't stand the graphics of any other MMO!
