So I'm out trying to farm "Book of Glyph Mastery" and not a single drop after running 6 heroics (full clear) and 1 regular Northrend Dungeon's. I know they are world drops, but a while back these use to drop more often from instances

Anyone else have luck farming these?

You're aware this is a Wotlk item, so it will not drop from any northrend mob. Besides that it costs abouut 200-300g each, atleast on my realm. Back in the day you used to see one drop every 10 instanceclears or so. So I really don't see this being usefull in any way. You'll make more mone/hour herbing or mining.

Leaving out that it's a very small market, since people who take inscription serious allready have all the books. And how many people are going to invest 200-300g per glyph to be able to craft it now still?

Knock yourself out though :D

edit:
from wowhead comments:
"I have farmed for these in Ymirheim (Icecrown) simply because there are a lot of mobs there with fair respawn time and I had the entire place almost to myself. After two and a half hour of farming there and maybe 450-500 mobs killed, I got 3 of these books. I know its not any higher droprate from these mobs then any other mobs, but if you are going to farm for a world drop its a good place to do it.

PS: After more farming and some more books I would say the droprate is about 0.1-0.2%. Ofc this is just from my experience and its hard to tell since I might just have been really lucky."

Blizz recently stated that these will be obtainable again from Cataclysm, just like WOTLK.

I think it was in one of their 'Ask The Dev's' Q+ A sessions.

Yes, I'm aware of it being a WotLK item however it ONLY drops from northrend mobs and since I haven't received any message that I've learn all glyphs after opening the books that I have had before I figured I'd try and get all the recipe's :D

I didn't want it to come across that I was just farming it for gold

I'm an efficieny junk:

-you farm those books and get 1 book every 2 hours. general profit of 100g from the book + 100g from random stuff is probably 300-400g profit per hour

- Doing anything else that makes gold should make a lot gold per hour? Buy book of glyph mastery + other stuff = profit.

I know that there are loads of people who still prefer to do it as above, just saying :)

2 parts already mentioned, they will be changing the way you can learn the missing items instead of books. I think it is Northrend research. That was mentioned in a dev Q & A (mentioned above). You don't really want to farm them yourself. I know it is a shame that you can in theory, but it won't be worth it. Think of it as time invested.
10000 people on server, low drop rates (.1 or .2%). That is enough to give a few to the population. But if 9800 people are in Cata content, and only 80 people instance instead of quest, then you have a VERY low chance of seeing them, hence the 200-300G price. Even if you farm your heart out, you are no were near the number of people that they based the drop on (9800 people in WotLK). You won't be able to get enough kills in to make it worth it. Just deal with how you can.
Ask others to make the item (glyph) for you. I have never had a problem getting ink and asking for 5 glyphs. Buy one book a week so the over pricing doesn't seem so bad. Bide your time until they change how you get glyphs. From the time they mention stuff until it happens seems 1-2 patches, so by 4.4, you should see a change. Good luck.

Dunno if this is too off topic, but I hit gold cap pre cata, via abusing the AH. Glyph Books were NOT a decent enough margin to mess with.

AH abuse can be done in three phases.
Early money - Phase one - simply flip items.
- you can take a NEW level 1 toon, sell all the crap it comes with, and turn the silver into 1000g in 3 days. EASY

Normal money - Phase two - Alter existing items (stay in this phase even in phase three)
-take things like enchanting items and break them into lesser of whatever it is, or mod cheap lessers into greaters. motes into primals, primals into motes. Darkmoon decks build. Or mill herbs into ink, make bars out of ore, bolts from cloth. Relist with profit.

High money - Phase three - slow turn around, high profit flipping
- high end epics, flip for better profit. (only on weekends, when kiddies are not willing to wait) Dragon mounts, Darkmoon trinkets, BoE epics

Sorry off track. Anyway.. Glyph Books are a poor farmed item, and have a small market, just like Littleburst says. Point is, dont farm them. Instead if you want the item, farm something else with better profit or greater return per hr, and just buy them. I promise you wont waste your time, and it will grow faster, AND put some extra money in your bank.

Best bet, is hit up all the biggest NR dungeons you can find back to back. The drop rate is still the same, just less people actually coming across these now, as there's really no one running the NR dungeons except to level up. What I've done was just stopped my Rogue at lvl 80 and am currently gearing him up in the best gear I can get, will do the same with my Death Knight to tank/dps LK Dungeons. If you have the free space to make a dedicated team, or have one not yet past 80, I'd suggest doing the same if you 5-box so you can use the Dungeon Finder to chain the Heroics back to back. The drop rate might be a little higher that way, if not, atleast you'd get better drops. A couple addons that will help you out that I use are:

Ackis Recipe List
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/arl.aspx

Run this on the toons with crafting professions. It will give you a list of all the recipes/schematics/patterns/etc for each profession in the game, both new and old. Will even show you the ones that are no longer obtainable in the game as well and where to get each one, and which ones you're missing. Very helpful.

Instance Lock Out
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/instancelockout.aspx

This one will only need to be run on your main toon, but uses such low memory, I don't think it'll hurt to run on all. This will keep track of how many instances you've enter/cleared within the given hour since we have the 5 instance/hr limit. If you reach that, it'll give you a time frame of how long you'll have to wait to re-enter.

It took me a while to learn every single glyph on my one scribe, I even had to buy books off the AH to finish out. There is a list of glyphs that can only be learned from each research and a list from the books. Once you learn all the glyphs from researches, you'll know because you'll only craft the scrolls and will give no message that you have learned a new one in the chat channel log. Gold is not that hard to come across now, find the right things to craft and sell on the AH, or DE and sell the mats. I've found some things that make me some good money on Earthen Ring, but there are others catching on to them and undercutting me left and right. Farm for Sulfuron Ingots and Blood of the Mountain from MC and toss them on the AH. There's alot of guilds out there after the Hammer of Sulfuras and farming for mats for the one from BWL also sell. Way better options, but these mats I see alot on the AH. SIs more than others tho. And yes, the Books are goin for 300g bare minimum on my server. That's if you're lucky to find one below 500-600g each. The fewer there are, the more they cost. I wouldn't pay more than 400g if you're bent on getting them all. I bit that bullet only a couple times. Tip tho, make the Dust of Disappearance and sell them on the AH also but for about 6-7g each. I typically toss these on there in stacks of 3s, sometimes 1s, but I post a good size surplus of them too at times. Just don't flood it with'em.
